Copenhagen 2026 road running championships: race times, bib pickup and start groups

Illustrated title card for the Copenhagen 2026 road running race-week guide, with mile, 5K and half marathon distances Running (English)

If you are racing in Copenhagen on 19–20 September 2026, collect your bib before race day if possible, check your assigned start group, and use Copenhagen local time (CEST) for every deadline. The World Athletics Road Running Championships includes a mile and 5K on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday. The half marathon is sold out; the organiser says its resale platform and waiting pool have closed. Check the official FAQ for changes.

When does each race start?

The first elite start in each event is shown below. The mass-race times are the first listed times, not a promise that every runner starts then: later waves leave according to assigned groups. All times below are Copenhagen local time, CEST (UTC+2). The official race timetable lists the elite and mass starts.

RaceFirst elite startFirst mass startTime limit
One mile, Sat 19 Sep10:10, women10:361 hour
5K, Sat 19 Sep14:10, women14:421.5 hours
Half marathon, Sun 20 Sep09:10, women09:473 hours

The men’s elite starts are 10:30 for the mile, 14:40 for 5K and 09:45 for the half marathon. The organiser measures your official time from when you cross the start line. Check your bib colour and expected time against the official start-group pages; a later wave can leave well after the first mass start.

Concept chart: time conversions calculated from the official timetable. CEST is UTC+2 and Japan is UTC+9 on race weekend; the chart uses the women’s first elite starts. Mass runners must use their assigned wave.

The bib deadline that matters

The Expo is at Forum Copenhagen, beside Forum Metro station. The organiser lists 10:00–19:00 on Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. Saturday 19 September, 10:00–18:00, is for half-marathon runners only. One-mile and 5K runners should collect their packs by Friday 18 September. Half-marathon runners may collect through Saturday. These are organiser instructions, not estimates. The FAQ describes emergency race-day collection in Fælledparken but warns of queues; use that as a contingency, not a normal plan.

Build a simple race-day timeline

  1. Before travel: save your confirmation and participant email, and verify your bib colour, group arrival deadline and expected start time on the start-group page.
  2. The day before: collect the bib at Forum within your event’s Expo window. If you need bag drop, locate the Runners Area and check the traffic notices before choosing a route.
  3. Race morning: work backwards from your group’s latest arrival time, not from the first elite gun. The organiser recommends finding your group 10–15 minutes before it moves toward the line.

For an overseas viewer, subtract two hours from Copenhagen time for UTC or add seven hours for Japan. For example, the women’s half marathon starts Sunday at 09:10 CEST, which is 07:10 UTC and 16:10 JST. This conversion is a calculation, not a separate event announcement.

What to check at the last minute

The FAQ is updated as race weekend approaches. Check it and your participant email again on the evening before your race. Pace groups are planned for the 5K and half marathon, but not the mile. Headphones are permitted, though the organiser recommends keeping your ears free for officials’ instructions. If you are running the half marathon, use your own practiced pacing plan; our pacing explainer discusses why an aggressive early split can be costly over longer distances.

Fact check: 17 September 2026, Japan time. Race dates and times are event dates; source pages may be updated later. This independent guide is not an official event notice.
