Berlin Marathon 2026: the expo-to-start checklist for visiting runners

Original illustrated Berlin 2026 race-week checklist with expo, wristband and start sequence Running (English)

What must a visiting runner do before the 2026 Berlin Marathon? Collect your race material in person at the Tempelhof Airport expo on 24–26 September, keep the athlete wristband on, and arrive at the start entrance assigned by the organizer with your bib. The running race is Sunday 27 September; runners begin from 08:45 in six waves, not all at 08:45. Check your own start card and bib for the details that apply to you. These are organizer details checked on 17 September 2026 and may change. Official race-material instructions and race-day instructions take precedence.

Three decisions that prevent a race-week scramble

Concept diagram: 24–26 September expo pickup, then 27 September bib and wristband access and assigned start wave
Original concept diagram: a planning sequence, not an official site map or timetable.
  1. When will you collect your bib? The organizer lists Thursday 24 September, 15:00–20:00; Friday 25 September, 10:00–20:00; and Saturday 26 September, 09:00–19:00 at the MARATHON EXPO by BRITA, Tempelhof Airport, Platz der Luftbrücke 5. Bring your start card and photo ID; someone else cannot collect it for you. The organizer says time slots can be reserved in your account until 21 September. Allow for travel and queues; an expo closing time is not a safe arrival target. Check current pickup rules.
  2. How will you get there and to the start? The expo page recommends public transport because no parking is available at the venue; U6 to Platz der Luftbrücke is roughly a ten-minute walk according to the organizer. The participant transit entitlement covers Berlin ABC zones from 24 September; read the instructions in your start-card email rather than assuming a paper bib is the only required proof. For race morning, the organizer lists U-Bahn/S-Bahn stops near the start and warns that routes and schedules can change. Expo travel information; race-day access.
  3. Which gate and when? Bib and wristband are both required for the event area. Platz der Republik is the general runner entrance; Bremer Weg is restricted to a specified combination of purple bib, poncho symbol and non-K block. The organizer opens entry at 07:00 for blocks A–C, 07:30 D–E, 08:00 F–G, 08:30 H/J and 09:00 K. These are entrance times, not your personal gun time. Follow your bib/start card and the latest site notices. Official entrance and wave information.

A useful clock conversion for supporters abroad

Berlin is on Central European Summer Time (UTC+2) on 27 September; Japan is UTC+9. Add seven hours to a Berlin time: the earliest listed runner start, 08:45 Berlin, corresponds to 15:45 in Japan. This does not tell you an individual runner’s start time: six waves are scheduled and the assigned block matters. Confirm the current organizer timetable and your start card before arranging a meet-up.

What to verify in your own account

Check the start card, personal start block, whether you booked clothing drop-off or a poncho, and the current race-day notices. The organizer says clothing drop-off is only for runners who booked it; the alternative is a finish poncho for eligible bibs. Its posted 6:15-hour time limit and 15:40 cut-off at km 33 are different constraints, so a runner planning near the limit should read the full official rule, not extrapolate solely from a target pace. Fueling is also personal: trial any gel-and-drink combination in training rather than relying on an unfamiliar station product. For a different championship weekend, see our Copenhagen 2026 race-week guide; its logistics are not interchangeable with Berlin’s.
